There’s a clear attempt to create instability in Ghana – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Minister of Information, recent activities by certain Ghanaians
demonstrate a concerning trend of seeking to sow unrest.
The Minister said that Ghanaians should be concerned about this trend while appearing on Good Evening
Ghana on Metro TV.
“We don’t need to mince words when it comes to the fact that there is a clear effort to sow instability
in our nation.
There is a progression as well; initially, there was a group that want to show using weapons.
Then, he said, “there was this group who declared their intention to protest from the evening through
the night till the next morning and the Police ask obvious issues.”
Can you image what may have occurred at night if some of these things had been let to go on? This is during daytime, in broad daylight at Obra Spot here in Accra, and you have people assaulting police officials in this fashion.
He further said that the protesters had disobeyed the court’s directive about the legal path.
He said that the Police had admitted at a National Security briefing that the first targets of tear gas were
their employees who had set up a roadblock to compel the protestors to go the designated route.
29 persons have been detained in connection with the violence that took place during the rally yesterday,
according to information released by the Ghana Police Service.
The protest’s organizers will also be presented in court, according to the police.

The police claimed that the arrest was due to the protestors’ participation in the “violent assault” on police officers in a statement that was copied to the media.

During the Arise Ghana rally in Accra, “the police have detained 29 protesters for their involvement in violent
assaults on the police and certain members of the public, including schoolchildren.”
The Ghana Police Service said that it is studying the video evidence that is available of the incident and that it would not hold back in pursuing any other those who encouraged the violence.
