
Uzor Arukwe – Recounts As He Was Paid As Low N1000 For A Role In Nollywood
There are some expenses that come with fame, and Uzor Arukwe, a lovely Nollywood actor, has paid
his dues and is now enjoying his years of hard work.
Uzor Arukwe discussed his early days in Nollywood and how he climbed to fame in a recent interview.
Uzor Arukwe also talked about how he quit a corporate job after ten years to pursue a career in
Nollywood, as well as the challenges he experienced in the beginning.
“The difficulties I experienced were essentially dismissed and undervalued,” says the author.
“A lot of people didn’t know what I was capable of, therefore they didn’t know if I could act or not.”
I needed to show that I understood what I was doing and that I could do it well.
I’ve been trained for this and have been waiting (for a long time) for possibilities.”
“Also, the costs for acting were absurd,” he concluded.
One might play one or two roles for as little as N1,000.
It was a disaster, but like in any other sector, one must keep pushing forward.
Consistency and perseverance are required.”
Uzor Arukwe claimed to have worked 10 years in the retail and telecommunications businesses
before venturing into Nollywood.
“I’ve always wanted to work as an actor.”
According to Punch NG, the actor stated, “I wanted to earn a livelihood from it.”
“I worked in the business sector for ten years.
I worked for five years at a telecommunications firm and another five years in a sporting
goods retailer.”
